Job opportunities in New Zealand

Are you thinking about emigrating to New Zealand? Do you know if your desired occupation is in demand?

The New Zealand government offers a user-friendly website which lets you enter your occupation to see if your skills are needed: http://skillshortages.immigration.govt.nz/.

If you’re offered a job that’s on the List of Skilled Occupations or one of the Essential Skills in Demand Lists, and you’ve got the qualifications and experience to match, getting a work or residence visa will be easier.

In demand jobs include forest scientists, project builders, quantity surveyors, arborists, poultry, beef and dairy cattle farmers, winemakers, physiotherapists, social workers, architects, biochemists and quantity surveyors.

Positions such as electrical engineering technicians, bricklayers, carpet layers and glaziers are in demand under the Canterbury Skill Shortage List (CSSL), which contain occupations in critical shortage in the Canterbury region following the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes.

We’ve listed a few current positions in some of New Zealand’s main cities that fit the criteria. You can click on the job title links for more information.
