Visas & Advice Detail

Skilled Worker

A very popular visa for emigrating to Canada, although it might take some time

Key requirements
Basic health, language and character requirements; score at least 67 points on the selection gbrid, which is split into six 'factors' – education, language, work experience (in occupations in Skill Type 0, or Skill Level A or B on the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC)), age, arranged employment and adaptability.

Processing time
Currently over three years. With less stringent age requirements than the Australian equivalent and no need for a job offer, the Canadian skilled worker visa is in some ways a more straightforward visa to qualify for than the Australian or NZ equivalent; but it does take longer to obtain. However, if there is an offer of a full time job on the table that's been cleared by human resources and skills development Canada, then processing times could drop to a year or less.

Alternatives
Provincial Nominee Programme or Temporary Work Permit
