Building prices rise

It’s official, just like almost every other developed nation in the world New Zealand is getting more expensive to live and work in

The index that keeps a track on the price of consumer goods in New Zealand has recorded its twelfth consecutive quarterly rise in the March 2006 quarter.

According to government statistician, Brian Pink, the price of construction components, and therefore the price of buildings in general is on the up as is the price of the labour required to build them. In fact, in the past year the cost of building residential buildings has risen 5.9 per cent.

On top of this, the escalating costs of raw materials has forced the price of non-residential building construction up 4.5 per cent in the last year.

On the plus side, that Audi you had your eye on could be a little more affordable as the only sector to record a decrease was the car manufacturing sector.
