Migrants still in demand

Despite the current economic climate, New Zealand still appears keen to attract a certain kind of working migrant.

The country is currently targeting working holidaymakers, with its related advertising campaign judged by the British Sunday Times to be one of the top ten 'most ingenious travel offers' in the world. The campaign features working holidaymakers travelling NZ and recording their own personal diary.

Lecturers are also currently in demand in Aotorea. As of June 2009, university lecturers emigrating to the country will get extra points towards their visa application if they hold a masters degree or a Ph.D. The proviso is that lecturers must apply for an area of absolute skills shortage, and must also have at least 12 months of experience in their field. They must also meet standard New Zealand immigration requirements, such as being aged less than 56 years old and providing adequate medical and character references.
