Paperwork alert
You're dreaming of lazing around under a hot Californian sun, then the reality hits you: Before you can enjoy the fruits of American life, you'll first have to dig yourself out from under a mountain of paperwork.
For those seeking temporary work in America, there's a new form to shovel in the direciton of US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
USCIS is reminding applicants for the H-2A agricultural temporary worker programme and the H-2B non-agricultural temporary worker programme to use the new Form I-129, which contains the H classification supplement.
The final rules for the H-2A classification and the H-2B classification, which necessitated revising these supplements to the Form I-129, came into effect from 17th and 18th January 2009 respectively. Petitioners who used the old forms for the H-2A and H-2B classifications will be required to use the revised supplement and will consequently experience delays on their application.
Furthermore, USCIS has just announced it has delayed until 3rd April 2009 the implementation of an interim final rule entitled 'Documents Acceptable for Employment Eligibility Verification'. Employers are now required to complete a Form 1-9 for each of their newly hired employees to confirm their identity and authorisation to work in America.
So it's not all bad news. One day you'll be living the dream, lazing on the Californian beach while your employer is knee high in your paperwork!
