Minister states support for 'new' system
The Canadian Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, Jason Kenney, has pledged to retain the strong immigration and refugee programmes and reputation that Canada has built up over the years.
In addition to praising the immigration programmes, Kenney spoke of his support for the recent changes to the immigration system designed to reduce the waiting times for visas and fill the gaps in the labour market with the skills that are needed.
Speaking at a meeting of the Immigration and Refugee Board, Kenney stated: "Applicants who aren't eligible for the federal Skilled Worker category may qualify under another category, such as the Provincial Nominee Programme, or as temporary foreign workers, which could then put them on a path to permanent residency through the new Canadian Experience Class. There are many ways to immigrate to Canada."
