Pacific Highway upgrade announced
The Federal Government is set to contribute AUS$2.4 billion to a Pacific Highway upgrade.
Before leaving office, Australian Prime Minister John Howard confirmed that the money would be invested even if the New South Wales Government refuses to contribute to the project.
According to Howard, the highway could be completed from Sydney north to Woolgoolga and from the Queensland border south to Ballina if the state government was prepared to match the AUS$2.4 billion investment by 2015. "After 2014 we'll have more money available, and if that is matched then we can complete that final section between Ballina and Woolgoolga," he said.
