Britain's oldest emigrant!
A Second World War veteran has decided to emigrate to New Zealand at the age of 102. His reason? England is too crowded.
Eric King-Turner and his 87 year old wife Doris will set out from Southampton on a 12,000-mile cruise taking them to their new life.
New Zealand's better weather, excellent fly-fishing and lack of crowds attracted King-Turner, although he admits he will miss his friends in Britain.
The couple, who are both widowers, have lived in Hampshire since their marriage 12 years ago. "I would say to anyone that if you want to do something you should do it straight away while you can," the retired dentist said. He added: "I like New Zealand. The way of life is very much the same as it is here but it is not so crowded and the weather is certainly better." Commenting on the future, he said: "I'm an Englishman through and through and there will be things I will miss, such as my friends, but New Zealanders are very easy to get on with."
Doris King-Turner is a New Zealander and still has a bungalow in the South Island town of Nelson, where they will live. She sponsored his application to emigrate.
"It's going to be a great adventure," she said.
