Warming to the task
Unless you have been buried under a sizeable polar icecap for the past ten years you will all know the story by now
According to that omniscient force that is 'science' – and we're not talking about the Tom Cruise version here – the world is heating up and there are going to be some serious consequences unless we make a unilateral decision to ditch the four-wheel-drives in favour of a less environmentally unfriendly mode of transport.
When it comes to global warming and climate change the fact is that it doesn't matter whether you're a cynic or a believer as the consequences of the hype surrounding this global issue will eventually affect you whatever you think.
As we sit at home dutifully separating our rubbish, politicians are busy setting up initiatives, newspaper journalists are busy criticising them and the rest of the public is busy feigning concern whilst consuming energy at an ever increasing rate.
As argument and counterargument is followed by ever more dubious claims of corporate environmental friendliness and a wave of advertisements telling you to turn your washing machine down ten degrees and use their product, the average Joe would be forgiven for thinking they were being taken for a proverbial 'ride' in an attempt to shake them down for yet more cash.
Yet whilst the cynics might point at the 'fuzzy math' of it all, one pointer that cannot be ignored is the current wave of environmental disasters that seem to be sweeping the planet.
Nowhere has this been more evident than in the United States over recent years. Whether it is wildfires sweeping through the drought-ridden west, hurricanes reaping havoc on the Gulf Coast or floods in the east, the country has certainly been on the receiving end of its share of the environment's wrath.
Given the fact that these areas remain high on the list of destinations for emigrating Brits it is well worth considering the impact that such weather extremes will have on you in your future life – whether it be preparing for flooding or simply consideration of the financial impact future environmental changes will have on your pockets.
So, what impact will global warming have on your move to the US?
