Canadian climate change

As the UK continues to recover after the recent floods, at the back of every Brit's mind is the inevitable question – was this anything to do with global warming?

In this country it is a debate that has no definitive answer. Yet even as the floodwaters subsided in Gloucester and Hull and things start back on the road to normality, Canadians are in no doubt about the effects of climate change on their nation.

With the international tussle for control of the Northwest Passage now in full effect and Arctic wilderness looking ever more precarious, Canadians are fully aware of the problems they could face in the near future and are ready to start pointing fingers.

As net exporters of energy supplies to much of the nation, this is a fact that seems not to have been lost on the Maritime region of the country. A quick glance at the activities of local government and at the news headlines in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island over the past month speaks volumes about the current predicament facing an area that relies largely on the environment's natural resources to support its way of life.
