Ontario online job increase
The number of jobs being advertised online in Ontario in June increased by more than in any other province, according to the latest data from the Monster Employment Index
The recent figures from Monster.ca, which are based on millions of online job postings and data culled from Monster Canada along with a number of other Canadian recruitment websites, show that Ontario's online job demand increased by nine points between May and June, to 117 points – an all-time high for the province.
This gain can be attributed to increased demand for workers in three occupations: management, business, finance and administrative employment sectors, and, natural and applied sciences. Hamilton was the main driver of online job demand in the province, experiencing an increase of 19 points – more than any of the other 13 Census Metropolitan Areas (CMA) used in the index – with demand for workers in business, finance and administrative occupations, management, and natural and applied sciences once again fuelling the increase.
Canada's capital, Ottawa, suffered a decrease in the number of jobs being advertised, though, falling two points to 113 – 26 points behind Hamilton's figure. Elsewhere in Ontario, Toronto experienced a ten-point increase, and Kitchener an 11-point rise. Throughout Canada, demand for labour being advertised over the Internet declined slightly in June, with the index falling one point to 124 – although this is still a 29 per cent year-on-year increase.
Seven of Canada's 13 provinces and territories experienced an increase in the number online job postings added – Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan and, of course, Ontario – while New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Northewest Territories, Nunavut and the Yukon all experienced declines. Nova Scotia's online job demand rate remained unchanged.
According to the index Manitoba is currently the province with the most online jobs being advertised (130 points), followed by BC (125 points), and New Brunswick and Nova Scotia (both 122 points). Ontario now has the eighth highest amount of jobs advertised online, although had the fewest in May.
In terms of CMAs, Manitoba's capital Winnipeg leads the way with online job demand (149 points), followed by Hamilton (139 points), and Calgary, Alberta (126 points).
All in all, though, the Internet remains a useful tool for those of you hoping to find a job before you emigrate to Canada, with every province and territory and all of the CMAs – apart from Regina, Saskatchewan – now having a far stronger demand for jobs online then they had a year ago.
