Porting Lead (Mobile Games)

Bight Games is a developer of innovative mobile games for Java and BREW handsets. Bight games are distributed to mobile operators and subscribers around the world through agreements with aggregators and master publishers such as THQ Wireless, Airborne Entertainment, Skyzone Entertainment and Telcogames. Bight's studio is located in the Atlantic Technology Centre overlooking downtown Charlottetown and is only a stone's throw to the beach. We are a small but fiercely talented team who live and breathe games. You will lead and mentor a team of developers in porting games to Java & BREW handsets, as well as Symbian, Windows Mobile and other native-C platforms (iPhone, Ngage, DS…). Your day-to-day responsibilities will include detecting and acquiring new mobile devices, porting applications to a wide range of handsets, testing games and fixing configuration bugs to ensure carrier certification for NSTL and JAVA certification. You will also be responsible for maintaining our device library and tracking system. What you need to have: A passion for video games with significant hobby/professional game development experience; A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering; 3 - 5 years hands-on development experience in mobile environments (J2ME, BREW) with 2 years experience in a porting role; Proficiency in tracking bugs and device-related issues; Proven experience in configuring mobile handsets; Understanding of operator's certification guidelines and functional acceptance testing for mobile applications; Knowledge of 2D and 3D graphics programming; An understanding of optimization and practical experience of producing high quality coding whilst working within memory and processing constraints; Proven ability to provide accurate time-line estimations and to successfully deliver within those time-lines; Be motivated, creative and work well independently and as part of a team.

This includes the coordination of art, design, testing and programming teams to deliver a stellar finished product. Producers are responsible for keeping in constant contact with publisher representatives and addressing concerns in a timely manner, as well as maintaining all project-related documents and schedules. Experience with software such as Excel, Word and MS Project is required. Video Game Programmer

To be considered for a position at Other Ocean Interactive in our programming department, applicants should be able to demonstrate their programming skills. Professional programming experience and a B.S. in Computer Science, or equivalent, is preferred. We like our employees to be as flexible with their programming as possible. All applicants should have experience in the following areas of game development: C/C++; 3D Mathematics; DirectX or OpenGL Programming; 2D Graphics Programming. Additionally, applicants should have knowledge of at least one of the following: Console development; Tool development; Plugin or scripting development with either 3D Studio Max or Maya; Object Oriented Design; Assembly Programming (particularly in Z80, 6502/65816, 6809, or 68000); Audio Programming; Physics Programming; An interpreted programming language (Ruby, Python, Perl, etc.). Video Game Designer

A game design job at Other Ocean Interactive typically entails creating, documenting and implementing game design and in-game systems. Candidates should be able to work independently as well as under direction, and must have excellent communication and documentation skills. A game designer at Other Ocean Interactive will be involved in many different and exciting project types. Design tasks can vary from figuring out how to update and enhance a classic game to today's high-def standards, to creating new concepts from scratch to present to publishers. The job is ever changing and challenging, but always fun and rewarding. Designers should have at least two years of experience working in the games industry, including writing and maintaining game design documents. They should also have an understanding of level design needs for specific platforms as well as knowledge of Maya or other 3D packages. Knowledge of Visio is beneficial for the creation of flow charts for in-game systems. Programming or scripting experience is greatly preferred. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel is indispensable. A love of games of all types and genres is essential and encouraged!

2D Artist/ Low-poly 3D Artist

The videogames that are developed by Other Ocean Interactive require a broad range of skills from members of the Art Team. Our projects range from HD Xbox 360 games to low resolution DS titles. Some games are based around 2D sprites, while others employ sophisticated 3D engines. All of them require professional & creative artwork, animations and designs. To be considered for a position in our art department, applicants should be able to demonstrate that the artwork they are capable of producing is as good as that found in commercial videogames. We prefer our artists to be as versatile as possible. Applicants should have at least one of the following skills and abilities: 3D polygon modeling; UV texture mapping; Sprite/Pixel creation and animation; 2D & 3D animation; Graphic Design/Interface Design; Conceptual art; Special effects animation. The software we use includes Photoshop and Maya. Training will be given if necessary, though some experience of similar graphics applications is expected. Our artists tend to have an interest in the design of games, and will often be involved in level design and game design. We try to accommodate each artist's chosen specialty whenever possible, and we give everyone the opportunity to try new aspects of art production as much as we can.
At Other Ocean Interactive, there are plenty of opportunities for career development. Junior Artists will have time set aside for training and mentoring. All members of the Art Team have the chance to attend workshops and industry events in Canada and other countries. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include designing and creating assets for a range of mobile devices (high-end to low-end). You will ensure optimization, consistency of style and quality of work throughout all elements of the game. You'll actively participate in all stages of the project life cycle. This will include working with the development team to produce accurate estimates during pre-production and ensuring smooth delivery of artwork during production. What you need to have: A passion for video games; Two or more years of production art experience; A solid portfolio that demonstrates a strong sense of character and posing, as well as an understanding of set and background design; Attained/be working towards an Art/Graphic Design qualification; Working knowledge of 2D and 3D graphics software; Proven ability to provide accurate time-line estimations and to successfully deliver within those time-lines; Be motivated, highly creative and work well independently and as part of a team; Practical experience creating art for mobile delivery is desirable.
