Canadian Family Class
An option for some prospective emigrants, especially if you have Canadian relations
The Family Class is designed to reunite family members in Canada. You must be related to a Canadian citizen by one of the following means: spouses, common-law or conjugal partners 16 years of age or older; parents and grandparents; dependent children, including adopted children; children under 18 years of age whom you intend to adopt; brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces or grandchildren who are orphans, under the age of 18 and not married or in a common-law relationship; and any other relative if you have none of the above relatives or family members, either in Canada or abroad.
Your Canadian relative must be willing to sponsor your application and agree to support both you and any accompanying family members financially for a period of three to ten years.
The next step is for both you and your sponsor to complete all the relevant application forms.
If you are related to the sponsor as a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal-partner or dependent child, then your sponsor will need to send both sets of forms, supporting documents and fees to the Case Processing Centre in Canada. They will then forward the application to the CHC.
If you are any other relation, your relative will still need to submit their completed sponsorship forms. They will then be sent an application they forward to you. You need to complete this form and send it to the CHC.
