Visas & Advice Detail
Watch Your Step
We all make mistakes from time to time, it’s just human nature. But making a mistake when it comes to emigrating could cost you the entire process and put a swift halt to the dream of relocating abroad.
The simplest mistakes can make a big impact, so four specialists are on hand to identify the common mistakes when traversing the visa process.
The first mistake is migrants thinking they know the system best. "Most people think that they understand the immigration system and know all of their immigration options," says Ian Goldman of Goldman and Associates. "I can tell you that I have a hard time keeping up with all the changes to in all of the different routes – and this is my profession!"
Ian also says that migrants fail to realise that the decision-making falls not only to the federal government, but also to the individual provinces and territories, which all have a variety of different visas managed by separate governments.
Another common mistake is overlooking previous work, as Paul Wildy of Wildy Immigration explains. "Most people assume that to qualify for a skilled worker visa their current occupation must be the one that is included on the High Demand list. In fact, any occupation you have worked in for at least a year in the last ten years could help you qualify."
